PSHE
At Benenden we we are committed to providing a comprehensive, progressive, and engaging Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education.
Our intent is to equip all pupils with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to lead healthy, safe, and responsible lives, both now and in the future.
We deliver our PSHE curriculum, which incorporates the mandatory requirements for Relationships Education (RSE) and Health Education (HSE), using the SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) framework from Coram Life Education. This whole-school approach is rooted in our core values and actively promotes pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development, including the teaching of British Values.

“It is important for schools to promote pupils' self-control and ability to self-regulate... This integrated, whole-school approach to the teaching and promotion of health and wellbeing has a potential positive impact on behaviour and attainment.” (DfE statutory guidance for RSHE para. 85)
We recognise that a successful PSHE curriculum is built upon a strong partnership between home and school. To ensure transparency and facilitate continued learning at home, we inform parents termly via a newsletter of the SCARF unit overview and the specific learning aims for that term's work in Relationships and Health Education. We maintain an open-door policy for all parents who wish to discuss the curriculum content or their right to withdraw their child from non-statutory sex education.
