Year 5 Swallows
Welcome to Swallow Class!
Welcome to the Swallow Class page. Year 5 is the start of Upper Key Stage Two, meaning that we will be focusing on lots of skills to prepare ourselves for our final year in primary school.
In Swallow Class we will particularly focus on developing our independent critical thinking skills as well as becoming more reflective and evaluative of our own work. In Mathematics we will be problem solving with increasingly more challenging multi-step questions that will require resilience, adaptability and determination – skills all taught through our power maths sequence of learning. We will also aim to be autonomous in choosing from a variety of books that reflect our interest and ability which will influence our written work. We will continue to be critical of our grammar, punctuation and spelling as well as making informed choices as to why certain features are more suited to specific pieces of writing.
In our first topic this term, we will be exploring the lives of Victorian Children and we will be studying the historical concept of compare and contrast. For more detailed information please see our curriculum matrix, for weekly information please see the 'This week's learning' tab and if you would like to have a look at what fun we are getting up to in class keep an eye out for pictures on our class blog.
