Barnowls week 23/11/20

Class R Barnowls
For week beginning: 23rd November 2020

1)Don't forget to return reading folders on Monday/ Tuesday please, this has been well received and is certainly less pressured for us too while covid restictions mean everything has to be quarantined. If you do want to keep books longer, don't worry, this is fine, we will just change the ones we have.

2) Keep practising Away in a Manger, we need some very big voices.

3)The children brought home their raffle tickets and Hole Park Christmas tree vouchers on Friday, if they weren't in your blue book folder do let me know.

Literacy, language and communication.

This week we are learning how to read and write 'f ff l ll s ss', learning 'no, go, going, are and the' in high frequency words and continuing to hear the initial sounds in words when we are writing them. We continue to practise letter formation and  thinking writing every day. Our theme this term is 'People who help us' and we are thinking about the people who help us in the community. Normally we would invite parents in  professions such as vet/nurse/farmer to visit but restrictions on visitors at the moment rule this out. If you are able to come in when cirumstances change, do please let Mrs T know, we had a doctor, nurse and farmer visit last year and would love to welcome parents in as soon as we are able. This week we are learning about our NHS heroes, the doctors and nurses. We have set up a medical role play area and the children will be learning about what goes with the job in the medical profession.

Understanding of the world

Outdoor learning last week was amazing, we can't wait for Forest School to start in February. Our Stickman/Sticklady makes were such fun, we loved them. This week we continue to focus on our community helpers, learning about who can help us when we need it. We are also learning about the environmental changes taking place with Autumn now well and truly here. We also have a very naughty seasonal visitor arriving from the North Pole so we will be finding out about his homeland, he will have to stay in quarantine til December 1st however...

Congratulations to this week's Stars of the Week, Henry and Aria for working so hard; well deserved certificates...Anti bullying week last week was really cool and we learned about how to appreciate the special and unique in everyone. This week we continue to build resilience and a have a go attitude by trying new things and developing a growth mindset.

Expressive arts and design

Our diva pots are drying, next step is to paint and varnish them and add a few jewels...we love bling! We are beginning to decorate ready for the Christmas festivities. It won't be a normal school christmas experience but we are all determined that our children won't miss out because of Covid19 so everything will be done to ensure that the fun continues in a Covid secure mannre. Let the glitter begin.

Physical development

PE theme this term is agility and balance. We worked in pairs this week to balance on one leg and then transferred our balances onto the apparatus. We did some excellent balances and also played a game of Jack Frost, freezing into cool shapes. We will continue this Friday working on travelling in different ways and balancing.

Maths in Early Years is very practical. Lots of time spent sorting, making patterns, finding groups, comparing size and length. This week we will becounting out groups and adding on 1 more
